Whitewater Rafting in the Rainforest

Today was an early morning!  We were picked up from our hotel at 7:30 to start our morning adventure of Whitewater rafting.  I may not have mentioned in my earlier blogs the way the people drive in Bali.  It is CRAZY.  They drive on the wrong side of the road onto incoming traffic to pass people, there are mopeds and bikes and pedestrians everywhere.  All the streets are 2 lanes, but don't feel nearly big enough to be 2 lanes on top of having  mopeds and bikes everywhere.   The drive was 2 hours through the mountains, and Koz sat in the front seat.  I slept the majority of the way, but Koz didn't attempt due to the crazy driving, and the weaving in and out of traffic.  He was fortunate enough to see a monkey being skinned on the side of the road.  We tried asking the driver if it was a sacrifice, or food, we are not sure what the final answer is, but it's one of the two.  The Indonesian people are very religious and there are offerings everywhere, including all taxi's.

We made it to the rain forest where the drop off point was, and were given our guide, as well as the other couple who were in our raft with us.  They were from England, really nice, and great people to have in our raft with us.

The rafting was a lot of fun, and so beautiful.  The waterfalls were the prettiest I have ever seen.  It was gorgeous as well as quite the physical activity!  We had to lie down in the raft at numerous points in the river to be able to make it through branches and bridges.  We would get stuck on rocks, and our guide would have to get out of the raft to get us moving again.  We were able to go off of one large drop that was 15 feet high.  We had to sit on the bottom of the raft, put our feet up, and then off the edge we went.  It was crazy because you could not see the landing, so all of a sudden you were in the air, and then hit the water.  We stopped an hour into the rafting to take a break, and took a few pictures by this amazing waterfall.  We then hopped back in the boat, and continued rafting for another hour.  Along the ride you would see people washing their clothes in the river, and drying them on trees.

When we were finished with the rafting, we had to walk up nearly 100 "steps" on the side of the mountain, to make it to the car that had dropped us off.  We then ate lunch at a nearby restaurant that was included in the trip, and then took the 2 hour drive back to our hotel.  It was a really fun experience, and a really nice trip!

That night our hotel was having an Indonesian Seafood Feast and Show, so we decided to stay for that.  The food was really good with Satay (our favorite), as well as great fish, prawns, crab and other seafood.  The show was very interesting, but entertaining.  We had a really good time at dinner!

After the dinner and show, we went to the ocean side lobby bar, and had one more drink before our trip was over.  We had such a great time, and were so sad to leave.
