Phuket, Thailand

The Ewertz Sisters and I are off to Thailand!

We decided to take a weekend trip to Phuket, Thailand.  This area of Thailand was not effected by the floods, and is primarily beaches, so we knew it would be safe and clean to go there.  Ashley and Andy had just been in Thailand a few weeks prior, and I was supposed to meet up with them for the weekend, but due to the floods in Bangkok, I had to cancel my trip.  So, I was really excited that I was still able to get to Thailand with the mom's!  It was also great Ashley and Andy had just been there, because they were able to give me suggestions and tips on the trip before we left.

We left Thursday night.  I worked the full day on Thursday, and met the mom's at the airport.  It's a quick 1.5 hour flight, which feels like a breeze after flying from Shanghai and Chicago to Singapore.  I slept, the mom's read, and before you knew it, we were in Phuket!  Our taxi ride from the airport was an hour, so we were able to see a lot of the rural areas in Phuket which is always fun.  The mom's were also able to experience their first real Asian cab ride since they've been here.  They said it brought back some great memories of Hong Kong many years ago.

We were all really tired from the week, so we decided to make it an early evening, and get up early on Friday.

Friday we ate a nice breakfast at our hotel, and walked around Karon Beach where we were staying.  It felt even hotter then Singapore.  We walked through the shops that were on the side of the road, and explored Karon Beach.  We then took a shuttle from our hotel to Patong Beach, which is the main beach area in Phuket. It was a much larger area then Karon. We walked through the markets where they are selling the fake purses, and watches.

We headed back to the hotel, sat by the pool, and went to happy hour at the swim up bar.  All cocktails were buy 1 get 1 free. I ordered a Margarita, mom ordered a Mai Tai and Aunt Judy ordered a B-52.  My Margarita is served, Mom's Mai Tai is served with a nice pineapple garnish shaped in a heart and here comes Aunt Judy's B-52.  It is not a drink, but a shot.  Best part, they bring out their lighter, give her a straw, light the shot on fire, and tell her to start chugging through the straw.  She loves the "drink" but does not want to chug it.  The bar tenders keep yelling "faster, faster".  Needless to say, her next cocktail was not a  B-52, but we became best friends with the bartender due to how hard we were all laughing.

After our happy hour fun at the swim up bar, we decided we wanted massages.  The original plan was to go out on the beach to get the really inexpensive massages, but we went out to late.  So, we went to a more established massage place.  It was $10 an hour.... and amazing!  We were all able to lie down next to each other in this open room, and the little ladies were literally crawling all over us the whole time.  I got a Thai Massage, which was unreal.  They walk on your back, pull on your arms, stand on the back of your legs.  The ladies we had were so cute, and so nice, and kept making us laugh throughout the massage.  It was so much fun, and very relaxing all at the same time.

We did a little shopping after the massages, and were told that we bargain our prices more than the Russians.  Probably not a complement.  Even when you were done bargaining the people were so nice, and so gracious.  They always bow to you before and after, and they are really sweet.

After our long day of walking around, massages and shopping, we went out for a late night dinner!
