Instead of "journaling" to the point my hand cramps, I have decided to start a blog. Who will read it? Probably my parents, my sisters, Lindsey, and maybe Koz, the same people I talk to daily! But here it goes...
Mom, Dad, Jen, Tay and Koz all took me to O'hare. We met at my house, Jen brought Bruggers (my favorite) for breakfast. We left at 8:45 and got to O'hare in no time. Everyone came in with me to check in and hang out before I had to go through security. The international terminal was extremely quiet, so we sat in McDonalds for over an hour talking. After the "teary eyed" goodbyes, I walked through security. It was extremely slow, but no one seemed to be in a hurry.
I was able to board the plane almost immediately since I was flying in business class. Business Class = A ton of room and a sleeper seat. It was AWESOME! As I got on the plane, the flight attendants served orange juice, grape fruit juice and water, all on a silver platter. They were all so nice, and it honestly looked like something you would see in the movies, or on Pan Am!
As soon as we were in the air, the flight attendants handed out menu's, and I chose what I wanted for lunch and dinner. There were 3 options for both lunch and dinner.
For lunch I ordered "Bibimibap" which is a Korean rice dish with beef, veggies and hot sauce. It was actually really good. Before the Bibimibap, seared tuna was served as an appetizer, then soup, and salad was served. After the Bibimibap, fruit was served and the ice cream. About 30 minutes later the flight attendants came by with 3 bricks of cheese, crackers, grapes and wine.
After lunch I reclined my sleeper seat back all the way, and slept for about 3 hours. I woke up just before dinner was served. Dinner was also served in courses. I had an appetizer, salad and then seafood pasta for the main course, and fruit for dessert. I watched a few episodes of Friends during dinner. After dinner I went back to sleep for a few more hours!
After the 13 hour flight, we landed in Seoul! The flight actually went very quickly, and I can attribute that to the fact that I slept for 80% of the time, read for 10% and ate for the other 10%.
The Seoul airport was really new and very modern. All the signs were in English, Korean and Chinese. It was very easy to find my way around. The airport was very upscale, and every shop around was designer (Cartier, Gucci, Prada, Fendi, etc.). Needless to say, I didn't buy anything!
I got on the plane in Seoul, and flew business class to Singapore. The man I sat next to was from Milwaukee, and works for Kohl's Corporate! What a Small World! He was going to Singapore for a seminar and then to Hong Kong to meet with a few vendors.
I was extremely tired on my flight, so I didn't eat dinner. I literally slept the entire 6 hours. I think I woke up one time for about 15 minutes. Sleeping on planes has always come way too easy for me, but I may be spoiled now that I have flown business class. It may be hard to go back to sitting up and sleeping!
I arrived in Singapore at 11:45 p.m. Sunday night. The airport was so clean, and very modern, and extremely fast. It was easier to get through customs in Singapore then when I flew into Canada. The Sourcing Director for Asia flew in from Shanghai so he could pick me up from the airport. I met him, and we took a cab to my apartment. I had to fill out some paper work, and was glad to see I didn't have to pay for my apartment. S$6555/month is a little more than I could afford!
The people at my apartment were so nice, and showed me around. I have to turn outlets on in order to use them, and turn the water heater on in my apartment 15 minutes before I shower. My apartment is very small and feels a lot like a hotel room, but it will be good enough for 3 months!
I talked to Koz, Jen, Tay, Mom and Dad, and then went to bed. It is HOT here! Even at 1 a.m. it was 80+ out.
Day 1 and 2 are done!
